ARTIST PROFILE

I've been painting for as long as I can remember. I use art to process events, thoughts, ponderings about aliens, and of course politics. That results in everything from colorful abstracts, to intellectual reflections, to sentimental childhood memories. I also have a full slate of political and installation art that isn't currently displayed on this site (although there's a sneak-peek here on this page), so feel free to inquire. However, one aspect that I sometimes overlook is making art purely for the joy of it. That's what I aim to display here.
I have experience in a range of media, and love working with paper, resin, acrylics, and collage. You'll see influences from my experience with jazz, Latin, and Caribbean music, as well as various artistic influences such as my personal mentors and artists I've worked with - Cuban artist Leandro Soto, Chinese artist Ning Lee - as well as other greats like Chagall, Van Gogh, Matisse, Dali. Collage and paper sparked my interest when I discovered the works of John Heartfield and Hannah Hoch, among others of the Dada and Weimar period. I've always been intrigued by the times and places where making art could be akin to a death sentence. This shows not only the desperate need to create, but also the power of art to influence, impact, live on and sustain. It tells us who we are and where we've been. If my style speaks to you, I’d love to work with you.
